Hand - Made Flowers

Here is a box full of beautiful hand - made couture flowers. The art of making flowers is a wonderful technique that I will definitely continue to pursue. Sourcing the right fabrics is key to the making process of these particular flowers. Luckily the technique has been passed down from my Mum, hence why I have been able to produce such an array of flowers!

Fox Glove

This is what I have been meaning to post for a while. Before I broke up for the Summer, my final second year project was based on creating '3 Dimensional Flowers.'

I am very proud of this beautiful, Foxglove wall hanging that I have created!
I feel that this style of work has great potential, so I'm hoping to push this idea forward.
The Foxglove is made out of beautiful silk duppion, silk georgette, satin and velvets.

Two weeks to go before term starts ......

I have just come across my second year working studio and it is a reminder that in a few weeks time i will be back to the drawing board, pinning up inspiration for my final year projects! I can't believe how fast it has all come around, in less than a year i will be graduated! Scary but exciting at the same time!

This Summer i have done many things, i spent a week in Brighton at 'Jenny King's' studio. She works for the fashion designer 'Erdem.' I had the chance to see how a small embroidery studion runs. Then i had interviews in London for placements at Liberties, Clarissa Hulse Interior Design Studio and French Connection, PR department. I spent a week in London whilst taking my portfolio around to the design studios. I had a great response from the three different companies and it was a fantastic oppurtunity to talk about my work and also gain an understanding into what all these different placement's entail. Liberties offered me a placement for two weeks of which i'm hopefully going to do at some point. French Connection, sadly weren't taking anyone on this summer, due to office changes, however they have offered me a placement when i graduate, which is great! Luckily thanks to Clarissa Hulse Design Studio i was offered a placement for the month of July. The studio is based in Islington, London and i travelled an hour across London everyday from Wimbledon which was quite a tiring experience. I really enjoyed the placement as i gained a clear insight into how an Interior business is run on a day to day basis. I was so lucky to have had the oppurtunity, as it is quite a pressure today to find placement's and especially trying to find somewhere to stay. Luckily i was able to stay with some family friends which was fantastic! Being in London was great, on the weekends i had the chance to explore all the different areas of the city, i discovered a wonderful fan museum which was located in Greenwich, qued up for three hours on the opening day, to see 'Catherine Middleton's' Royal wedding dress. Just beautiful! My time was not wasted, to be honest i don't think i sat still! After a month in London, i returned home to North Devon and have continued to work on a summer project that was set, the work just keeps on coming! I have also started on the long journey towards completing my dissertation! Luckily i have had the chance to relax, having visited one of my close friends in Madrid and making the most of the beach and sea!

I will blog about recent work in the next coming days x

Floral Colour Inspiration

The past few weeks i have been busy creating three dimensional flowers. However i will upload them in a few days once i feel that they are complete in presentation. These two particular flowers that i have just photographed are so beautiful in colour. Colour is of great inportance within my work and i have been sourcing luxurouis fabrics to represent floral qualities.

Last week and this week i have made a trip down memory lane, working alongside my old art teacher at Braunton School. I thought that i wanted to gain a clearer insight into teaching as i feel that maybe someday down the line and may want to give it a go! The next month is going to be rather busy, completing this project, researching into my dissertation for my final study, work placement in Brighton for a week and then off to Madrid to see a close friend of mine, Sidonie and then hopefully i will be able to find a placement in London for a month or so in the Summer!

Final Second Year Project

Second year at Bath Spa has flown by. I am now in my final project.
I have decided to focus on flowers but instead of drawing them i will be recreating them straight into three dimensional forms.

Here are some photographs that i recently took last weekend in Bradford Upon Avon, a pretty countryside town situated twenty minutes outside of Bath. I am particulalry inspired by the delicate white and pink colour scheme.

Exhibition Complete

Finally the exhibition that i have been working towards 'Where do you run to?' has opened to the public for a week at 'The Octagon,' Milsom place, Bath!

'Where do you run to?'

‘Art, design, print, fabric, colour, texture, movement, light, beauty, quality, vitality, freedom; this is not work, it is a way of life we choose to live. Enrichment through artistry. Inspired by living.’ Georgina Von Etzdorf.

One day I plan to travel India, to source fabrics, photograph the changing landscape but more importantly to be inspired and changed! Therefore the Paisley pattern is a predominant feature throughout my designs. However I have also incorporated an Iznik style because I am particularly attracted to the beautiful turquoise blues that are reminiscent to the ocean that I escape to once in a while. Print, embellishment and opulent colour schemes are the symbiosis behind my creations. Most recently I have transferred my pen and ink style drawings via CAD in order to see my work in another dimension when transferred onto fabric. I hope to pursue a collection of beautiful silk scarves and bespoke interior accessorizes during my time at university. This paragraph was featured in the exhibition brochure.
